Standard Reasons for Email Problems

Email depends on many factors. And as unfortunate as it may be, most of those factors are out of the hands of the email user, you.

The most common problems with email are:
 

  • Your internet connection has been disconnected
      -Make sure you can surf the internet. If not, then it is likely that you have
       a connection problem. Try disconnecting from the internet, reconnect
       then try accessing your email again.
  • The email server is down
      -If you can't surf the website of your internet or email service provider
       it is possible that their server may be down. Try again after a few hours.
       If you still cannot connect, contact your email service provider.
  • Your email program is not functioning properly
      -If you can surf the internet, but can't get your email, your email program
       may have encountered an irreversible error. Try closing down the email
       program, and try again. If this doesn't work, you may have to reboot
       your computer, reconnect to the internet, then try your email program
       again.
  • Your email program isn't working, and you already rebooted
      -After rebooting, and connecting to the internet, your program should
       work properly. If not, then your email configuration settings could be
       configured improperly. Follow our email setup document for instructions
       on configuring your system properly.
Can't get your email from our web access section?
If you can't access your online email, you will have to contact CDS to verify your account information. You may not be able to access your online email account for one of the following reasons.
  • Your email account has been de-activated for security purposes
  • Your email account has been de-activated due to lack of payment
  • Our email server software or hardware is being upgraded
  • An email virus outbreak has occurred, which will de-activate the email server for a period of 30-60 minutes depending on the severity.
Can't get your email from your email program?
If you can't access your email account from within your email program, you may have a corrupt configuration, or our server may be down for maintenance. Please review the frequently asked questions section above for the most common reasons for your email not working properly. You may also download our email setup document to help you check your email program settings.
